Dyson has announced plans to invest £500 million in a new global battery research and development centre at its Malmesbury campus in Wiltshire, cementing the UK's position as a hub for advanced solid-state energy storage.

The centre will focus on developing the next generation of solid-state batteries, which promise higher energy density and faster charging than current lithium-ion technology. The project is expected to create 1,000 high-skilled engineering roles.

"We are doubling down on the UK," said Sir James Dyson. "The future of the electric economy will be built here in Wiltshire."
